Fat Face Night Series

Date and time: 05/07/2008

Location: Mountbatten Centre, Plymouth

Event details:

The Fat Face Night Sail will take place at the Mountbatten Centre in Plymouth and will feature dinghies in a new style sprint concept. The event will be raced close in to shore for optimum spectator viewing.

The Night Series events - as a general rule - feature heats held throughout the day to eliminate up to 350 competitors who sign up to race.

Finalists who make it through the rounds are then qualified to take part in the main heats held at night, where spot lights flood the sea, snow or track and maximum concentration takes over.

For many, even the professionals, competing in the dark is a completely new experience, as Pro Windsurfer and Fat Face Team Rider, John Hibbard explained at the inaugural Night Windsurf in 2006: "The compulsory forward loop was generally in the flood light but then we were flat out in the dark. We literally just had to feel our way along the course; a completely new and powerful experience, especially when you’re trying to avoid fellow competitors! It takes a very special skill, which you learn when you're out there!

This year we're aiming to make the Fat Face Night Series the biggest and best series of events yet. Press are invited to come along and help us in our quest by covering the events and even taking part (go on! We'll provide coaching if necessary).

With many of the events relatively new or, this year, taking new formats, there is still a great deal of exclusivity to the stories and great opportunities for the taking.
