Arts & Culture

All eyes will be on Plymouth this summer as a ground-breaking community arts project culminates in an extravagant show inside Devonport Dockyard.  A Beautiful Journey (June 2-20) by the Cornwall-based WildWorks theatre company has attracted interest across Europe and was dubbed by one national newspaper as one of the 50 "must see" events this year.

The Barbican Theatre is creating an inspiring, visually exciting dance theatre production to be performed throughout the city this year.  Darwin - A Voyage to Change the World will explore two very different aspects of Darwin's voyage - his physical journey and his intellectual and scientific journey (17 July-1 August).

There's a watery theme through new work by Dartington-based Taskforce.  Liquid Landscapes are site-specific performances combining music, dance and visual media in iconic outdoor spaces.  Award-winning director-choreographer Stephan Koplowtiz and his international company of dancers will take art out of the theatre and onto the street, with a series of unique site-specific performances combining dance, music and visual media in iconic outdoor spaces in Plymouth and beyond throughout June.

Fine art is not forgotten, with a changing season of exhibitions at the MASA Fine Art Gallery at Royal William Yard and a retrospective of Robert Lenkiewicz: A Lifetime Legacy at the Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery.

From fine art to fine music adn the city's own Ten Tors Orchestra which will perform at the University of Plymouth in June when Benjamin Frith will christen the University's brand new grand piano with work from Mozart to Kozik, a member of the University staff who wrote the Magical Little Waves of the Harbour for the National Marine Aquarium.
